Are the tees unisex? Do they fit men or women better?

The US made American Apparel TR401 was chosen because it fits men and women equally well.

I may add other garments that may have unisex and women’s versions, but the TR401 Track Shirt is truly universal fitting.

Do the shirts in photos exactly match what I will get?

Please rely on the product page images and sizing numbers for what you will get in hand:

    • The product page photos are almost an exact representation of the cut, fabric look, color and design placement.
    • The garments in photos with people modeling designs may vary from actual final garments. The color, fabric pattern (heather/non-heather), fit, sleeve cut (particularly the womens) and length may vary due to the samples used.

Do you (or can you) make kids sizes?

Yes! I have a small Kids & Youth section now, and will be adding more designs soon.

If you don't see a design you want there yet, please ask! On request I can create a purchase page for any design on the site, using a 100% cotton American Apparel tee in both Youth and Kids sizes (as seen in the items currently in the Kids & Youth section).

Here’s how to ask for a custom Kids/Youth design:

    1. Fill out a contact form with a link to the design you want in the details.
    2. I will send you a link to order from.
    3. There will be 3 sizes available and various shirt colors (all the colors that the design works well with).
    4. Choose the color and size, and order.
    5. It will arrive in ~10 days!

What kind of printing and inks are used?

Designs are applied to blank shirts by Kornit brand 'Storm Hexa' printers using Kornit brand NeoPigment inks. The process is called "Direct To Garment and saves waste by only printing what is needed.

    Are the inks vegan?

Yes - but I am in the process of seeking double verification to be absolutely sure I can say this. According to emails with a representative of the ink and printer manufacturer Kornit, maker of the ink and printers in use at my print partner, the inks "are not tested on animals", and according to the website "contain no animal by-products".

As of 2/19/20 the Kornit rep is in the process of double verifying this for me by seeking written confirmation from the various department heads on these statements, and I will keep this page updated as info comes in.

Are the inks used non-toxic, eco-friendly and safe?

Yes. Kornit NeoPigment inks are water-based inks and according to the manufacturer, who operate their own ink factory, are:

    • 100% non-hazardous
    • 100% toxin-free
    • Biodegradable
    • Contain no animal by-products
    • Free of heavy metals, formaldehyde and alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE)
    • Safe for infants and babies
    • Meet the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications for infant wear, Global Organic Textiles (GOTS-3V), Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

    Is the printing process eco-friendly?

The printing process is "waterless" using essentially an oversized specialized ink-jet printer in a highly controlled environment where only the ink needed is applied to the garment.

It is "waterless" versus with traditional silk screening, which uses much water and cleaning chemicals to prepare, prep, and and clean up the printing screens, tools, work area and excess ink, as well as in certain cases to prepare the garment itself (pre-bleaching, which is not used here).

Further, the number of garments printed is restricted to garments actually ordered, eliminating overruns and excess inventory, thus less waste.

    Returns / Exchanges / Refunds

I want you to be satisfied with your made-to-order graphic tee!

Please note that these garments are made to order, one at a time.

Exchanges are possible in these cases:

      • manufactured incorrectly (garment or design)
      • did not arrive (does not show "delivered" in tracking)

Unfortunately for other issues such as wrong size, gift misfire :) etc, there may be a more limited scope of possibility as the items are manufactured to order -- but please do ask and I will try to work with you!!

Either way, if there is an issue, message me right away and I will respond quickly. For mismanufactured items, I’ll ask for photos to be sent to a separate email address.

    Shipping Issues

What if my shirts are damaged in the mail?

We'll replace them. Send a message and I’ll reply with an email address to send photos of the damage, after which will produce a replacement of the exact same item from my print partner.

What about incorrect addresses and shipping issues such as lost items?

If you notice you entered a wrong address, message me as soon as possible with a correction. The address can be changed up until a certain point before shipping.

If the item gets returned to the print house for a bad address, I will be notified and contact you for a good address, and will reship it to you.

If it goes to the wrong address and disappears in the mail (never gets marked "delivered") I can create a new one and ship it to you if I hear from you within 4 weeks.

If your item's tracking information states "delivered" by the shipper, but you don't receive the item, contact the shipper with the tracking number and file a claim directly with them.

In any of these cases and more, feel free to contact me as needed.

State and Local Tax will be charged in the following 36 states because the on-demand maker of the shirts has a physical presence or business 'nexus' in these states and charges tax as a drop shipper when shipping to these states. The money flows from you (when purchasing to Stairway To Vegan) to the on-demand print house, and they file and pay the states:
